Dear Mr. Thakur, Good to see that you have posted your views on this episode, there are few things i would like to bring to your notice (I believe you are well aware of all these) While it is a fact that the public perception of police as an organization is not very good (for various assignable and non-assignable reasons), that of the IPS as the premier service has so far been decently high. Regarding this,is it not the duty of the officer at the higest rank to make sure that department under him works in the way it is supposed to, from my personal experience i have seen that the ASI's or SI's and the policemen they are more busy in doing "Ji Hazoor" to their superiors rather then doing the duty the reason they quote is the IPS officer will go after some time (Month or Year) but we will stay here. You are well aware of the Land scam in which a mass of IAS and IPS officers were involved also does not the IPS officer fall into the jurdicsiton of the police department. I strictly beleive that Mr. Rathode had many accomplices who helped him in getting away for last 19 years the right sentence would be "Partners in Crime" and most of them would have been in the Higher ranks. I know policemen who have joined after paying a hefty bribe so from the inception their motto is to misuse the service for personal gratification may it be collecting hafta from a street vendor or from vehicles plying daily on a particular route, and if you ask them they say "Ye upar tak jata hai, hum kya kare". But unfortunately in the recent few years, there have been many such infamous incidents of high-profile nature where senior officers of this Service have been found to be the perpetrators of the worst forms of crime. The latest in this is certainly the Ruchika case where it is alleged that this 14 year old girl was forced to suicide because of Sri Rathode, the then IGP. What is even more alarming is the fact that it is being claimed that once this now deceased girl made allegations against Mr Rathode, the police officer used all means of personal and departmental power and influence to ruin the family members of Ruchika, including registering many cases against her brother and sending him to jail. An interesting and noteworthy fact here is that even the then DGP Sri RR Singh has come out in the open to speak against a member of his own fraternity as has an IAS officer, the then Home secretary. The way the media has taken up the issue and the way the fact that Sri Rathode was an IPS officer who supposedly misused his position, is being highlighted in the media has certainly added one more black spot to the service and to the police department as a whole.
