Subject: Re: Give powers to lokayukta to prosecute the corrupt - Petition

Dear Syed Tanveeruddin,

Accept our compliments for your campaign to provide powers to the Karnataka
lokayukta or kla to prosecute the corrupt politicians / netas and government /
sarkari officials / authorities / babus in Karnataka.

In this connection, we wish to draw your kind attention to the following
extract from the TOI Editorial titled "Losing Against Corruption" of June 25 -

"Hegde's quitting ------- brings the spotlight back on the efficacy of the
institution of the lokayukta and lok pal. In India, there are as many as 17
states with the institution of lokayukta. But their power, function and
jurisdiction are not uniform across the country. Often, legislators are
deliberately kept out of the purview of lokayuktas,
-----------------------. The reluctance of our parliamentarians has never
allowed the creation of the office of lok pal at the Centre. The Lok Pal Bill
has failed as many as eight times in the Lok Sabha.-------- "

Under the circumstances, we request you to consider to start a campaign for the
enactment of the long pending Lok Pal Bill. This Bill should be the original
one as advocated by the then PM Indira Gandhi in 1968, because it has been
diluted so much that there is nothing left in its contents except its name. Its
background information is given in the attachment No. 1.

In this connection, the Gandhian Satyagraha Brigade, being run by a 92 year
young 1942 Quit India Movement Freedom Fighter, is working for its enactment
for a long time, but in the Gandhian way. Copy of his latest letter addressed
to the concerned authorities is attached for your kind consideration to start a
campaign for the enactment of the long pending Lok Pal Bill. We are sure if it
gets your kind support, then it will bring fruits.

Thanks & regards
