"Bibtex-Type" is a bibtex *field* with that name (which usually is not set). In BibDesk, special 'fields' that do not correspond to actual bibtex fields (such as special columns and also in the format) always contain spaces, so they cannot be confused with actual field names, which can't have spaces.
