But similar to my criticism of the Merlin commuter in the Olmo thread, why even bother with a front fender if it does not keep the bike dry? That fender ought to extend down the wheel to keep as much street spray off the crank, bottom bracket, and your bleedin' shoes as possible.
Another peeve of mine: for some reason, most mass produced commuters are set up for racks and panniers in the back, rather than the front (believe I saw a Gary Fisher with a built on front rack). I recently put together a custom with a nice low trail fork and big honking Cetma rack up front.
