The Phil Wood hubs are wonderful. That is what I run on my brevet and touring bikes. I think I have probably close to 50,000 miles on one fixed/fixed Phil hub. I also have had pretty good luck with the Surly hubs (despite their low cost) on my off-road, snow, and commuting bikes. They are easy to winterize and service. I only need to carry a 15 mm wrench to change flats. I personally have not used skewers on a fixed gear bike. I am sure that the advice that Peter White gives is solid (as it usually is) but I just have never made the jump. Maybe I just fear the unknown as I am a knuckle dragging fixed gear rider. Good luck with your project. -Regards, Spencer St Joseph, MO --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Bicycle Lifestyle" group.
