A good question.

In hindsight, I over thought my bike situation.

I already have a heavy duty (and somewhat heavy) loaded touring bike I
also used for commuting.  The custom commuter was to put an end to
swapping racks and tires.

Considering the cost and the wait, the Boulevard or the Silkroad might
well have been the better choice.  Live and learn.
