What you have happening is electrolosis, it occurs whenever dissimilar
metals come in contact with each other and yes, even though your wiring is
insulated, the resistance from it can accelerate the
condition.
Grease on the threads will help, so would wrapping the screws with a layer or
two of rubber or teflon tape.
Then go to the hardware store and buy some thin brass washers to sandwich
between any contacts of steel and aluminum.
Brass is a neutral metal and will slow down the reaction considerably.
Making batteries exploits this type of reaction, to impede you reverse the
process. Salts and acids work as electrolytes, small amounts of leaked power
energize the system and contact between dissimilar
metals will show corrosion.
Baking soda mixed with water will neutralize the corrosion and it should clean
right off with a toothbrush.
