CROSS-TOWN SANITARY SEWER REPLACEMENT PROJECT
On Monday, March 18, the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD)
will begin construction of a new sanitary sewer through the isthmus of
Madison between Brittingham Park at West Washington Avenue to the Yahara
River at East Washington Avenue. Most of the construction will be
located in Brittingham Park and the railroad corridor paralleling John
Nolen Drive and East Wilson Street, but will include disruption of
traffic on bike paths and cross streets in the area until construction
is completed in November of 2002. The project will include replacement
and upgrading of the bike paths in Brittingham Park as well as the
Isthmus Bike Path in the East Rail Corridor. The sewer construction
project is being scheduled so as to have these bike paths back in
service by early June. Until then, bike route detours will be marked
with signs to redirect bicycle traffic around closed portions of the
bike path.
All work is being accomplished under a construction contract between
the MMSD and the Fox Construction Company of Madison.
David C. Dryer, P. E., City Traffic Engineer
