The others to add to Robbie's list - though both couldn't be done until
2010 at the earliest - are:

Phase 3 of the Cannonball Trail, which would be an overpass of the
Beltline; and
Phase 1 of the Yahara River Trail between Lake Farm Park and McFarland.
A feasibility study for this project, which would include replacement of
the railroad bridge, is bein done now. The county has included money for
design work in the 2009 budget.

Subject: Re: [Bikies] Where are the bike projects?

There are plenty of projects that have already been thought out and ARE
shovel ready - at least if we have more than one year. They are in the
Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP), and a few that I proposed in late
October are below. I was asked to submit the name of the project,
jurisdiction, approximate cost, and a short description.

The 5-year TIP (2009-2013) for the entire metropolitan area can be found
here:
http://www.madisonareampo.org/Otheredoc_pdf/tip08.pdf

On request of Brenda Konkel (among others) the Madison portion of the
TIP will be brought to the Council before being sent on to the MPO as a
request for funding. Keep in mind that the projects listed often will
not receive funding because there is not enough federal (or local)
money, but nothing can receive federal funds unless it is in the TIP.

The bike-ped projects that might be part of the economic stimulus
package, i.e. are ready or almost ready are:

Starkweather Creek Path from Commercial Ave to Aberg Ave & Starkweather
Creek Path overpass of Aberg Ave.

City of Madison

$2.8 million to bring the federal share up to 80%. The City of Madison
got 50% of the cost from Enhancements, but may not be able to do the
entire project until we get additional funding. This is part of the
Starkweather Creek Path that is partially complete, and connects the
Capital City Trail from downtown Madison out to the airport and NE side
of the city.

Cannonball - phases 1 & 2

South Beltline frontage road to SW Path.

City of Madison and Fitchburg

$2.3 million

Links two sides of busy highway and also connects with existing busy
path. Would allow access to elementary school on south side of Madison.

Junction Ridge overpass

City of Madison

Bridge across Hwys 12 & 14 south of Old Sauk Rd

$1.8 million

This overpass of the West Beltline ( US Hwy 12 & 14) has been in
neighborhood plans for over 10 years, but funding has never been
available. This would allow a safe crossing of a major highway and link
two neighborhoods, as well as a neighbo0rhood and a large retails area.

Hartmeyer Path (alternate to Sherman Flyer)

City of Madison

Commercial Ave to Roth St

$200,000

Would allow a safe connection through key area of north Madison. Right
now, people ride on a patchwork of streets or directly on a major
arterial with no bike lanes. This would be a stop-gap measure until a
trail could be constructed. This path is a very small link that is
currently a desire line across an empty lot.

Ice Age Junction Path - phase 3

$1.9 million

CTH PD to S High Point Rd (incl. CTH PD underpass)

Link in Ice Age Trail (national scenic trail); part of major N-S route
on West side

Bike Station at Union South

University of Wisconsin - Madison

Cost?

Part of a new student union. Would also be used as bike parking for a
future transit hub.
