I absolutely adore these racks as well. The only shortcoming I've
ever seen is that they're pretty sensitive to getting plowed over and
rendered unusable. Two out of nine in front of my building resemble
abstract sculpture more than bike racks.

YES!!! For what it's worth, the "duck bill" racks that John is
writing about are my favorite bike racks too.

To reiterate what John said but added from my experience, the duck
bill racks seem to accommodate more bicycles, more types of
bicycles, and allow people to use the racks without having their
bikes tip over than any of the other racks that are out there. They
balance the need for space between bikes and the ability to fit the
maximum number of bikes into the minimum amount of space.
If folks have critiques of these racks, I'd like to hear them. I
have always wondered why these duck-bill racks weren't ubiquitous.
