You are invited to attend a public information meeting for the upcoming construction of two interrelated projects; the replacement of the High Point Road Bridge over USH 12 (the Beltline) by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and construction of a proposed bike path along USH 12 by the City of Madison. These projects are described in more detail below, along with contact information. If you are unable to attend the meeting but have questions or comments, please feel free to call or email the contacts below. Public Information Meeting Date & Location Tuesday September 24, 4:30 pm-6:30 pm Community Room at City of Madison West District Police Station 1710 McKenna Blvd, Madison WisDOT High Point Road over USH 12 Bridge Replacement Project The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is developing plans for the proposed replacement of the High Point Road bridge over USH 12 in the City of Madison. The existing bridge has a deteriorated deck and the height over USH 12 is below standards. The bridge is also too narrow for the roadway leading up to it on both sides. The project will consist of replacing the existing bridge and reconstructing 0.26 miles of High Point Road between Goldenrod Lane and D'Onofrio Drive. High Point Road will be widened to accommodate four lanes of traffic plus bike lanes. Sidewalk will be added to the east side of High Point Road and a multi-use path will be added to the west side. Retaining walls will be constructed in the southeast, northeast and northwest quadrants of the bridge project. For additional information about the High Point Road Bridge Replacement Project, please contact: Wisconsin Department of Transportation David Layton, P.E. - Project Manager SW Region PDS -- 2101 Wright St. Madison, WI 53704 (608) 246-3821 [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> West Towne Bike Path Project The City of Madison Engineering Division is developing plans for a bike and pedestrian path that is proposed to run parallel to the Beltline (USH 12), between High Point Road to the west, and Grand Canyon Drive to the east. The proposed path would be located on the north side of the Beltline along West Towne Mall. At the west end (High Point Road), the path would connect to the new bridge over the Beltline (the previously described project), and cross to the south over the Beltline, to connect with existing paths connecting to Watts Road and Commerce Drive. At the east end (Grand Canyon Drive), the path would continue east along Grand Canyon Drive and connect to the existing path running on the north side of the Beltline between Grand Canyon Drive and Medical Circle. The proposed path would add another valuable connection to the bike and pedestrian network in on Madison's west side. For additional information about the West Towne Bike Path Project, please contact: City of Madison Engineering Division Anthony Fernandez, P.E. - Engineer 4 City-County Building, Room 115 210 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd Madison, WI 53703 [email protected] Sincerely, Robert F.
