Got the following message, and thought folks might be interested. I know a bit about this proposal, and the route would open up quite a few options for people that work, shop, or live in a rather bike-unfriendly area of the city: West Towne, High Point Rd, Watts Rd, etc. Basically, the proposal is to extend to the west the existing path that runs along the Beltline from Whitney Way to Grand Canyon. I can't remember the exact route or configuration, but I know that it involved going under (or over?) a couple of nasty intersections, thereby making it much easier for pedestrians and bicyclists to get through.

These projects are described in more detail below, along with contact information. Tuesday September 24, 4:30 pm-6:30 pm, Community Room at City of Madison West District Police Station, 1710 McKenna Blvd, Madison *WisDOT High Point Road over USH 12 Bridge Replacement Project* The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is developing plans for the proposed replacement of the High Point Road bridge over the Beltline. The existing bridge has a deteriorated, two-lane deck and substandard clearance over the highway. The project will consist of replacing the existing bridge and approaches to accommodate four lanes of traffic plus bike lanes, wide sidewalk on the east side and a separate, multi-use path on the west side. *West Towne Bike Path Project* The City of Madison is developing plans for a bike and pedestrian path along the north side of the Beltline from the existing path at Grand Canyon Drive (Struck Street underpass) to west of High Point Road. At High Point Road the path would connect to the proposed bridge over the Beltline, cross to the south over the Beltline, and ultimately continue west to CTH M.
