Forwarding this information from John Somerset in Chelmsford re the
Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch. He wrote Thursday, Feb. 24th.

"I have seen the Rosy Finch only very intermittantly.
I saw it on Saturday around 10-10.30 AM, and again around 3.30PM. I did not
see it on Sunday, there were a couple of vehicles with birders, but I don't
think they were successful in seeing it.
I next saw it very briefly on Wenesday morning, which was very cold, -26C,
for about 5 minutes around 7.15 AM., but have not seen it at the feeder
since. I saw it briefly for the first time along my trail, about 1km from
the house, in company with a few Pine Grosbeaks in the afternoon.."

John tells me that the neighbour who also has feeders has only seen the
finch once there. John also says that he would absolutely not like anyone to
drive up his driveway. It is very narrow and dangerous with very steep
banks.

John also mentions it appears the best time for the bird is at daybreak and
that cold weather seems to encourage it to come to his feeders. It seems to
be there much less often in warmer weather.
