Hi Everyone
Yesterday, July 16th, birded Amherst Island for the morning. Most
productive area was the east end of the island (K.F.N. property). Shorebirds
included 3 adult Short-billed Dowitcher, 6 Wilson's Phalarope and 7 adult
Greater Yellowlegs. We flushed 5 adult Black-crowned Night-Herons out of the
ponds and there were numerous juv. Herring Gulls and 1 juv. Caspian Tern on
the gravel bar. Made a quick stop at Amherstview Sewage Lagoon- water levels
high, 3 first summer Bonaparte's Gull resting, lots of families of Mallards
and a few shorebirds.
Near Ottawa checked the ponds along Moodie Drive near Trail Road
Landfill Site and observed a first summer Lesser Black-backed Gull and 12
Pied-billed Grebe, four adults sitting on nest.
good birding, Bruce
