Weather:
Conditions today were somewhat similar to yesterday with substantial
amounts of clouds early in the day giving way to brighter skies during the
middle portions of the day. Heavy cloud cover returned in the afternoon
bringing with it a bit of rain by late afternoon. Winds were light to
moderate varying from east to east-northeast.



Raptor Observations:
There was a very active migration underway by the second hour of the count
and even though the activity peaked in the middle of the day, there were
still good numbers of birds moving right up to just before the beginning
of the rain. With poor weather forecast for the next couple of days, it is
not surprising that birds were eager to move right up to the last possible
moment. Much of the flight was overhead, particularly during the peak
movement at midday and included some very good looks at many of the birds.
Highlighting the day was a light-morph Rough-legged Hawk, notable in that
we seem to be having an off year with regards to this species. Included in
the Red-tail movement was a juvenile dark-morph bird.
