Today at lunchtime there was a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher in the woodlot north-west of Tunney's Pasture (the woodlot of Prothonotary Warbler fame). The bird was found along the northernmost trail that runs east-west. This trail is quite narrow and parallels the Ottawa River Parkway, which is a few dozen metres further north. The bird was basically directly north of the Pontiac and Patricia intersection. After a couple of decent views, it flew off and I could not relocate it. There were a few other migrants (yellow-rumped and black-throated blue warblers, ovenbirds). Redstarts (a common breeder here) are still numerous but no yellow warblers (another common breeder) were noted.
Paul Matthews, Ottawa Directions: From hwy 417 (The Queensway) follow Island Park Drive north approx 2km to Clearview (last street before the Parkway and Ottawa River). Turn right onto Clearview one short block, then left onto Patricia for parking and entrance to the wooded area's trails. Follow the trail north (towards the river) until you come to the trails that go east: the main wide one and, a few metres further north, a narrow secondary one. The bird was along the latter trail. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
