Hello Everyone
This afternoon did a quick run out east of Ottawa. There were 46 Sandhill Cranes along Milton Road with a flock of 6 and 7 close to the road while a larger flock of 33, were off Smith Road. The Eared Grebes were still present at Alfred Sewage Lagoon. I observed 5 individuals after 20 minutes of searching. They were in the north west corner of the east cell. Also had 100+ Ruddy Ducks, 2 Redhead, and 1 Rough-legged Hawk flew over Peat Moss Road. At the Casselman Sewage Lagoon there were 56 Ruddy Ducks and 1 Snow Bunting.
                                               good birding, Bruce

Directions: From the town of Alfred go east on Highway 17, then turn south on Peat Moss Road and drive for 2 km. The lagoons are on your left (east side of road). The birds are best observed from the viewing tower.
Access to the viewing tower is free and no permit is needed.
Entrance to the lagoons is prohibited unless in the possession of a valid
ANNUAL PERMIT. The permit can be purchased ($20.00) on week days from the Alfred town office just beside the fire station. Arrangements can also be made to
receive the permit by fax by contacting Richard Villeneuve at (613)679-2292.

Directions: From Ottawa take Hwy. 417 east and take exit 96 (Boundary Road). Proceed 2.0 km on Boundary Road to Russell Road (Regional 26). Turn right onto Russell and drive 3.5 km to Milton Road (Regional 31). Turn left on Milton and go north to Perrault Road. After you pass Perrault watch for the cranes in the fields on the west side.
