We all enjoyed the talks on Hummingbird banding, Monarch tagging, Raptor banding, Hawk identification, Pelle Wings Nature Store sales, and of course the social interaction of birders and newcomers to the hobby of bird (and hawk) watching. Thanks to all who visited the three weekend events. Thanks to the volunteers for all of their special help in making this year a positive success. Do visit us throughout the migration season. We continue the count daily through November 30 when available counters and weather permits. There is no festival on Sunday the 28. The count will be held. Weather: Windy from N all day. Highest 18 mph. Temp 16.5-21.2 C. Barometer 30.17 > 30.13 in Hg. Raptor Observations: Wind caused the raptors to either to be low (100 ft) or very high (limit of vision). a general mix of birds. Bald Eagles were a problem today with local birds (2Ad and 3 Imm) frolicking about the marsh with the immatures diving on each other. A watchful eye had to be on them while migrant BE passed through the area going as far west as visually seen in 8.5 X and 10X binocs. There was also an immature Peregrine Falcon that patrolled the outer area of the marsh and perched on a distant tree in the marsh. It also on one occasion chased an Osprey for 5 minutes. The Osprey dodged the dives and tail tagging of the peregrine very well. The peregrine finally gave up the chase. Non-raptor Observations: A mix of song birds were observed. The highlight of banding was a Yellow-breasted Chat that Tower visitors got to see. The second ever Chat banded at the station. Predictions: Hopefully more raptors. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Bob Pettit ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
