Winds were fairly strong and brisk from the northwest varying somewhat to the west-northwest. Raptor Observations: After last nights rain and the passage of a cold front, today was perhaps a bit slower than anticipated with the flight mainly a TV and Red-tail event. I suspect that the front as it continued to move to the east blocked any large movement of raptors. Non-raptor Observations: Crows continued to move well today especially in the afternoon with some particularly large groups noted late in the day. With the strong west winds overnight, a large area of mudflat was in view at Pointe Mouillee today and hundreds of feeding gulls were present, mostly Ring-bills but also good numbers of Bonapartes. Shorebirds present included both Yellowlegs, Dunlin, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Black-bellied Plover, Killdeer and most surprising, a possible Piping Plover. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Pointe Mouillee State Game Area information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
