Half an hour ago I saw 6 Hooded Mergansers, both males and females, and 8 Common Goldeneyes on the Rideau River in Ottawa, between Cummings Bridge (Montréal Road) and Beechwood Bridge. They were swimming with a large group of Mallards.
Rideau River runs through downtown Ottawa. Form Highway 417, take the Riverside Drive/Vanier Parkway exit and drive North on Vanier Parkway. Turn left (West) on Montréal Road and then right (North) on North River Road which is parallel to the river. Parking on North River Road.
