A Peregrine Falcon was observed flying briefly today at approximately 11:30am before it perched on the roof of the white apartment building at the northwest corner of Queen and Ahrens Street West. It stayed perched there for approximately 20 minutes at the top of what I think is the radio antenna.
Saw it through a 7th-floor office window, had to step into a meeting and it was gone when I returned. It was too far away to tell if it had any leg bands or other discerning marks, but that it was a Peregrine was unmistakable. Downtown Kitchener is accessible from the 401; take the Hwy 8/King Street exit and head north for 11 km, staying on King Street, which will take you directly into downtown; turn right on Queen, and the building is approx. 200 m up the street. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
