Good evening Ont Birders,
Sorry for the late post, but I got called back to work, on my short day off, and have just got home. Around 1pm today Friday, I observed an adult breeding plumaged Cattle Egret, at the back NE pond at the Waterdown Garden Supplies Facility in Flamborough. It eventually flew East across the ploughed field and landed behind some Red Barns, off Hwy 5, were Cheryl and I lost site of it. I spent a few hours at the facility today in search of the Laughing Gull, but I could not find it, among the 1000s of Ring billed Gulls. I am certain the Egret will show again this weekend, for there are lots of Horse Farms that are in this area. Directions: Waterdown Garden Supplies will be only open only till noon Sat. They are closed Sunday and Holiday Monday. Please check in at the Front office, and obtain your safety vest. Continue to safely walk North in the facility to the back rows of compost, then proceed East nearly to the fence line, then South a few hundred yards. Scan West in this pond edges, the bird was happily feeding here. The Facility is located on the North side of Hwy 5, between Orkney Rd and Woodhill Rd, in Flamborough. As mentioned there are many Horse Farms in this area, so a cruise around them all, is certanly worth the effort. Rob Dobos turned up 2-Cattle Egrets in this same area two years ago. Apologies again for the late post. Good Luck, Dave Don _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
