Hello Ontario Birders,
A male Varied Thrush has turned up at Cold Creek Conservation Area in King Township. The house on the property (mine) has a feeder in the front yard, and a number of "logs on end" ringing the driveway on which I put whole corn. It is the whole corn it seems to be feeding on thus far (although we've put out some dried fruit). It seems more active in the mornings, although it has been seen throughout the day (today only at 10:30 am, and 2 pm). It's been seen in various places in the front yard, although it takes a while for the birds to return when there are people out front. The best viewing area for now is from the driveway (before it splits). Other interesting birds seen today included a Northern Shrike, a Red-bellied woodpecker, and a Brown Creeper (along with the regular Blue Jays, Mourning Doves, American Goldfinches, American Tree Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos, Downy & Hairy Woodpeckers, and Northern Cardinals). Cold Creek Conservation Area is located on the 11th Concession, between the 15th and 16th Sideroads. From the South, take HWY #27 North to King Road (Nobleton). Turn left on King Road and drive for 4 km to the 11th Concession (look for the sign for YMCA Cedar Glen Camp) and turn right (North). Cold Creek Conservation Area is about 3.5 km on the right, with a large sign out front. Park on the side of the road into Cold Creek. The first (and only) driveway on the right is to my house. Walk down the driveway, and try to keep back from where it splits. Happy Birding!
