Many Ontario and Western New York birders will be saddened to hear that longtime Niagara area birder Alan J. Smith passed away last night at Welland General Hospital in his 95th year. He enjoyed more than 65 years of birding in the Region, restricted only in the last 12 months or so from getting out to enjoy the birdlife of Niagara. Losing his wife of nearly 75 years only 3 months ago saddened him greatly.
