My friend from TO comes up once in awhile and we usually head out to do some
birding on the Bruce Peninsula. After a huge downpour Sunday morning we decided
to head up to a newly discovered conservation/sanctuary just south of
Howdenvale. Petrel Point is still under development and boardwalks are expected
to be build. We headed to our usual stop at Isaac lake where two noisy Sandhill
Cranes flew overhead. A lot of Gadwalls with young were in the wetlands. Coming
to the end of the road we noticed that a lot of the bird boxes were gone and we
wondered if they had been stolen or if the officer in charge of this area had
lost enthusiasm. When hearing a Loon in the distance my binoculars spotted some
Kingbirds hovering like Hummingbirds. I'd never seen them do that. Then a
little further in the reeds we spotted approximately 5 -8 Nelson's Sharp-tailed
sparrows. At first we were doubtful as to what these birds were but checking it
out in the guides, we found that they were indeed them. Nice one, never seen
these before, but then again if an Albatross can make it to Canada, why not
these little ones..
