Saturday, July 30 about 8:15am. Apologize for the late posting - Clay Coloured Sparrow vehemently singing two-note song near the path through the meadow at the Foster Woods Park in Kleinberg, perhaps 100 meters east past the hydro towers. We could partially see him singing through the leaves of a small tree about 3 meters from the path where we watched for a few minutes hoping he'd come out from behind the leaves...but instead he flew to the far south side of the meadow where he continued singing. We didn't hear him when we came back along the path about 90 minutes later. Also saw and/or heard during that 90 minutes or so, mostly in family groups: Mourning Warbler (in the overgrown meadow at the bottom of the hill), American Redstart, Indigo Buntings (everywhere, in many plumages), Field Sparrow, Eastern Kingbird, etc. A very pleasant summer walk.
Good birding! Denise and Rod Potter Directions to William T. Foster Woods: At woods off Islington Ave. north of Major Mackenzie Drive. Take the trail from southeast end of parking lot. Clay-Coloured was singing just to the south side of the path, 100 meters past the hydro tower. http://maps.york.ca/yorkexplorer/pdf/Trail23.pdf _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
