Greetings: Migration is certainly in full swing at the Wetland.

Solitary & Spotted Sandpipers, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, and a gazzillion
Red-Winged Blackbirds.
I also saw a Sora. It was my first for the 2011 birding season.

The Red-Wings are just fantastic. You can watch them fly in and disappear into
the cattails.
You can hear them but have little chance of actually seeing them once they
land.

I did get a chance to watch some juvenile males - the red was not actually red
but anywhere
between a yellowish-red to very pale orange. They are still heavily streaked
making them look
more like females than males. Our baby Killdeer are still kicking up a fuss
but have grown into
superb adult specimens. There are numerous duck also - Green-wing Teal,
Blue-wing Teal, Wood Duck,
& Mallard. A pair of Mute Swan are still in the north cell. They did not
produce any offsprings this year.
Our pair of little Ruddy Ducks disappeared shortly before my last trip and have
not returned. I was so hoping
to see Ruddy ducklings - who knows perhaps next year.

There a few more rumblings that could effect the wetland. I will keep you
informed and plan on attending the council
meeting Monday night.

The wetland is located exactly 7.3 kilometres south on Highway 30 off the 401
at exit 509. Just stay on the road
right through the Town of Brighton.

Most sincerely Maureen
