Barred owl, Strix varia, Healey Lake/Highway 612, MacTier
3:15 PM

I was driving eastward on Healey Lake, nearly arriving at Highway 612, when
I looked at a group of trees nearby a wetland, by the corner of the
intersection. I saw an owl perched in a tree. I pulled over, put my
indicator lights, and looked to see what kinds of owl it was. Sure enough,
it was a barred owl. This was the first wild barred owl that I've seen.

To get to MacTier, take exit 187 from Highway 400 Northbound, then
take Highway 11 into MacTier, which turns into Highway 612. Healey Lake
road is several kilometers north of MacTier, where Highways 11 and
612 merge.
