Watched a female feasting on red berries on Alvar Rd about 1km West of Victoria Rd. She was very close to my truck when I stopped and never moved as I sat there and watched her devouring berries about 8 feet away! A lifer for me as I had to look it up when I got home. Definitely a Pine Grosbeak! If I had known at the time I would have hung around longer to see if I might spot a male.
Directions: North on hwy 12 to hwy 48. Turn East to Victoria Road and go North on Victoria Rd to Alvar Road. Alvar Rd only goes West from here. The road is an unimproved road so be prepared for a bumpy pot-holed filed ride. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
