Hi Ontario birders.
Just returned from Chambly about an hour ago.
The Ross' was first seen to-day around 1:45PM behind the old fort near the
marina. It had apparently not been seen earlier in the day despite the fact
that there were numerous people looking for it since the early morning hours.
I heard that it is Mark Gawn who first spotted it flying in from further on the
lake. The bird stayed around, feeding on the water in company of numerous
Bonaparte Gulls, at least until around 3:00PM when it took off and flew behind
a row of trees at the base of the rapids. At that point most people left and I
do not know if it was seen again in the afternoon.
At the suggestion of a fellow birder from Ottawa who just called me, I will
post tomorrow whatever news I see on the Québec forum about sightings or non
sightings.
Good luck to anyone trying for this great bird in the coming days.
