Highlights:

NORTHERN GOSHAWK, SNOWY OWLS, TUFTED TITMOUSE, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW

City of Kingston/Wolfe Island

Bad weather, holidays and mid-winter blues provide meagre pickings this week
though the SNOWY OWL (s?) at Landings Golf Course has now become rather
popular. A SONG SPARROW was seen in cattails north of Bath Road this morning
and a NORTHERN SHRIKE graced a downtown suburban garden this afternoon.
TRUMPETER SWANS put in a brief appearance at Cataraqui Bay on 23rd but soon
moved on. The BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD reported last week continues to show at a
feeder just north of the city.

Amherst Island

Regular birds include SNOWY OWLS, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, SNOW BUNTINGS,
NORTHERN HARRIER and NORTHERN SHRIKE. Two HORNED GREBES were seen on today's
Christmas Count but full results are not yet in.

Howe Island

The TUFTED TITMOUSE continues to be seen on Howe Island, where BALD EAGLES
remain reliable. The RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and 2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS
also continue, and an EASTERN SCREECH-OWL is seen occasionally.

Other Sightings

TRUMPETER SWANS continue to be seen in small numbers along the Rideau
waterway from Brewer's Mills to Chaffey's Locks. A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen on
west of the city on Bath Road on 26th and 2 ICELAND GULLS have now taken up
residence at Lansdowne Dump. A private address at Cranberry Lake was visited
by a juvenile NORTHERN GOSHAWK on 23rd and has also held WHITE-CROWNED and
WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS all week. A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was a lovely
Christmas treat for one observer at Seeley's Bay, though they have been seen
throughout the area with some regularity this last week.

Thanks to all those who submitted sightings over the last week.

Here's to good birding in the New Year!

Mark.
