Hi, Everyone,
At 4 pm today, in the Bay of Quinte, on the east side of bridge from Belleville
to Rossmore (PEC), one white pelican among mixed flock of gulls, including
ring-bills, herrings, great black backs, one glaucous (?; white back, white
wing tips in flight, good size, but "smoky" on wings and belly when still and
standing...could be lighting issue; late day, heavy overcast), and looks to be
lesser black backs as well (perhaps two, streaking on nape for both, size of
herrings). Good opportunity for gull comparison as they were all together
standing on ice, near open water, but about 300 m from East Zwicks (dog park)
shore. The pelican walked over and put the glaucous (?) to flight. Otherwise,
in same area in open water, mallards, CAGOs, common goldeneyes, and two HOMEs
(under the bridge).
