Weather: Though the morning was chilly as we braved looking towards the bright, distant sun over the lake, the temperature ended up warm enough to shed our heavy jackets. The wind came from the west for most of the day, and cloud cover was sparse all day. Raptor Observations: We had the best possible look at a migrating Golden Eagle today, as an adult bird flew very low right over our heads in great light. Check out the DR Hawk Watch Facebook page to see pictures. Relatively few raptors were migrating today, though we did spot a total of nine Golden Eagles and a couple Rough-legged Hawks, which made for happy hawk watchers. Non-raptor Observations: A Lincoln's Sparrow and an American Pipit were spotted near the count site, as was a Common Loon. Not many American Crows were flying today, as we counted only 70. One small flock of Red-winged Blackbirds flew over. A Northern Banded Water Snake harmlessly slithered out of the weeds to rest on the warm metal edge of the sea wall in front of us. Predictions: Tomorrow will likely be sunny, but the light wind may make for less than ideal soaring conditions for Buteos and Eagles. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch (greg_norw...@fws.gov) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
