Festival of Flight: The festival is over but good birding will likely
continue in the weeks ahead. The last day was dampened by heavy rains in
the morning but cleared in time for the afternoon hike. Good birds such as
Gold-winged, Blue-winged and Connecticut warblers were seen on South Point
Trail. Several Acadian Flycatchers were recorded along the western part of
South Point Trail. The Prothonotary was a crowd pleaser for many days of
the festival. It will continue to be an easy bird to see as it is nesting
in two locations on Tulip Trail. The Yellow-breasted Chat was more
consistently seen in early May but continues to pop up in different
locations throughout the park. The White-winged Dove remains an easy find
on Lakeshore Rd as it sits on chimneys and cars. Thanks to the Friends of
Rondeau and the park staff for making my stay enjoyable. In total e-birders
saw a total of 207 species over the 21 days of the festival. Now on to
Huron Fringe Birding Festival based out of MacGregor Point Provincial Park
which starts on May 26th.
