George from Ohio was interested in learning raptor ID. Several local residents spent some time on the tower along with John and Ron, from Mississauga area later in the day. Bob Hall-Brooks, Dave Martin and Linda Waldarski spent a couple of hours each and Jim McCoy helped for most of the afternoon. Thank you everyone. Weather: It was a perfect day for hawk watching. The sun was warm, the winds were NNE to N all day and there was excellent wispy cloud cover for the background. Raptor Observations: 12 species were observed today including a light adult Swainson's Hawk. Many thanks to Jim who questioned the 'larger' hawk kettling with the BWs. The flight lines were challenging as birds were blown out onto Lake Erie, powering their way across the marsh over the tower, and winging west in the northern skies. At one point we had BWs flowing directly south and crossing the flight paths of other migrating raptors. Non-raptor Observations: A much more quiet day today. See our non-raptor report at http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39149236 Predictions: Yuck - east winds in the morning and south in the afternoon. But at least the sun will be shining - could be worse. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Cindy Cartwright (p...@bmts.com) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
