Weather: A cooler day again today with temp hitting a high of just 17C. Lots of clouds which unfortunately brought the for a couple of hours early in the morning interrupting the count. Eventually, it cleared out a bit BUT the winds ended up getting around too much to the W and brought today's flight to a halt. Raptor Observations: There were only 70 birds total today... not bad given the somewhat rotten weather. The bulk of the flight was Am. Kestrels (34), Sharpies (12) and Broadwings (11)... with N. Harriers (6), a single Merlin and as expected a few more Peregrines (6). Non-raptor Observations: A few non-raptors reported today...Common Loons, Ring-billed, Bonapartes and Herring Gulls, E. Starlings and Am. Goldfinches. Blue Jays tallied today...160. Monarchs counted: 56 Predictions: Well...if the predictions hold for the winds being moderate from the N and NE for the entire day Saturday I would expect we could see a pretty good flight of all species. This will be one of only a handful of days where the winds have had a northerly component. Hope to see everyone out there tomorrow and GOOD BIRDING!! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown (thebro...@ezlink.on.ca) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
