Good Evening All, At approximately 2:15pm this afternoon, I observed a solitary Northern Shrike flying NE across the Old Airfield (Mew Lake Campground) in Algonquin Park.
The bird was carrying a prey item (either a mouse or a vole) and did not remain very long, but just long enough to get a look at it's curved bill. Directions: Highway 60 to Algonquin Park. Mew Lake campground is approx. Km 30. Follow road in to campground, Old Airfield parking lot less than 1 km in on left (follow signs). By foot follow Old Railway Bike Trail (signs posted) to airfield. Permit required. Good Birding! The bird was located near the tracks on the southeast side of the parking lot. Directions: Meadowvale GO station is located at the foot of Aquitaine Avenue (at Millcreek Drive) in Mississauga. Take the 401 to the Erin Mills Parkway/Mississauga Road exit. Turn right (North) on Mississauga Road and follow to Derry Road West. Turn left (West) on Derry Road and follow to Millcreek Drive. Turn left (South) on Millcreek Drive and follow to Aquitaine Avenue. The Meadowvale GO station will be on your left-hand side. Good Birding!
