Primus Canada has an opening for a Systems Analyst in the Service
Platform Engineering group with a focus on VoIP. We're looking for
someone with Linux/Unix experience that has good grasp of VoIP protocols
particularly SIP/MGCP. If analyzing SIP packet captures sounds like
fun, this is the position for you.
As mentioned in my last post, this isn't a position where Asterisk is
the focus, as that isn't the platform we use in production however we do
use it for testing and prototyping. That being said if you're
interested in working for a large VoIP provider in a Linux/Sun
environment with VoIP applications this is a great position. We utilize
multiple VoIP platforms from various vendors and roll out new products
and services using a commercial SIP Application creation environment.
This is an engineering level, permanent full time position with benefits
based in Etobicoke, right at the Kipling Subway.

Systems Analyst Responsibilities
Building new services based on identified requirements.
Further develop and extend current platform and service offerings
Document all current and new services offerings for hand-off to Service
Platform Operations.
Researching new solutions and new technologies to provide solutions and
recommendations for the Primus systems.
Develop redundancy in all aspects of new and existing
products/technologies.
Develop contingencies for software, hardware and security related
failures and problems.
Research, configure and test new hardware platforms as directed
Automate provisioning and other systems in new products and features.
Work with and mentor System Administrators.
Report and analyze performance and capacity of Primus Canada enhanced
services.
Create Work Orders and Documentation related to the Primus Network. This
includes, but is not limited to new build outs, changes to the existing
infrastructure, and moving services/equipment around to better
facilitate optimal server performance.
Provide Backup on Call support for Systems Administration staff.
On call duties as per requirement, must be accessible after hours for
server problems or outages.
Work on various projects as required.
Qualifications
4 to 7 years of Systems Administration or System Analysis (Unix/Linux)
Advanced Knowledge of Linux/UNIX (Solaris experience an asset)
Advanced knowledge of Network Protocols, TCP/IP
Advanced knowledge of Internet Network and Internet applications
Advanced knowledge of LAN environments
Working knowledge or better of VoIP Protocols, SIP, MGCP, etc.
Good interpersonal skills for effective interaction with clients and
third parties.
Ability to participate in vendor related discussions
Good oral communication skills with the ability to respond to multiple
demands simultaneously.
Good written communication skills with the ability to document new
service offerings or solutions
JAVA programming experience is an asset.
