Every distribution of every version of Linux and Unix comes with mail server software built in. Check the documentation for your distribution to see what you've got. Most likely, it's sendmail, and you can get details on its operation by reading the man pages or the documentation at www.sendmail.org. For simple web-based administration, you might want to switch to qmail, which has alot of tools built for people who can't (or don't want to) handle the less user friendly configuration of sendmail. Your best bet will probably be to hire a professional to set this stuff up for you (which I guess is where this gets on-topic for the list).
