I would like to remind folks that there are posting guidelines for this group published at http://www.blackbellysheep.info/ When I see a trend developing for off-topic posts, I will send a friendly request to the poster asking them to abide by those rules, just as I do when someone tries to post a message that contains HTML or attaches something to an email. We have almost 300 people on this list, ranging from hard-science folks, to commercial breeders, to sheep-as-pets folks and it is a challenge to meet everyone's needs. I am tremendously proud of the people who post to the Blackbelly Listserv because as a group we get along well, no one is flamed, people aren't afraid to ask what some might consider "stupid" questions, and we help people be better shepherds. The quality of the information provided by this group is tremendous. So the posting guidelines that I set when I created the group seem to be working well, and keeping the topics restricted to only sheep-related topics seems to meet the majority's needs. There are a lot of Yahoo groups for hair sheep, and those groups would seem to be a great place to post puppy and stolen horse alerts and other non-sheep-related information.
If anyone has further comments about the posting guidelines, please send them directly to me and not to the group.
