Jennifer: We just got rid of our donkeys and went with two Great Pyrenees guard dogs instead. The donkeys would chase our sheep, especially new lambs. One of our lambs, last season, had its back broken by the donkeys and it had to be put down. Also, we lost four sheep this year to coyotes. They just weren't doing a good job of protection.
But, since you do have donkey, I would separate the two and let them get used to each other. If you have a corral or large pen area, you could put the donkey in there, while the ram gets used to having it around. Hope this helps.
