Hi, I am in the desert of AZ. No pasture here. My sheep are simply kept in a 30 X 40 pipe pen with hog panel inserts. The ram is contained on a 10 ft chain for my kids saftey. The ewe's and lambs are allowed to roam the 4 acres with the horses, but come every evening for dinner. They seem to always be hungry. I have ewe's that were pets and what we started with. They are tame and walk on leashes. They are the leaders. The rest just flock behind.
For feet trimming, we just rope them or use a crook from inside their pen. I have found children very helpful in the containment and catching of sheep. I think the energy level between the two to be pretty much equal. Currently I have 1 ram, 9 ewe's and 12 lambs. Lambs will be going for sale the first of Dec. Mostly ram lambs.
