Hello Diane, I live in Virginia so I am not really qualified in the Michigan cold climate. How many feet of hoses are you talking about? If you are concern about the hoses splitting I get all my hoses from Sears that have a life time warranty. They replace them without any hassle but the hoses are expensive.
If your concern is the hose freezing, not letting any water through, if the hose is not too long you can always drain the hose. Keep it in the sun even though the temperature is low helps some. I visited a farm and they had all their hoses running in old gutters. Of course the high point was at the faucet and the low point was at the watering area. Of course the hose did not run in a straight line. It looked like a mini roller coaster setup. It was the ugliest thing I have ever seen but it worked. I hope this might give you some ideas.
