He's been with them always; they are all three about 9 months old now, so I expect the ewes will lamb this spring. I plan to breed them again once the lambs are weaned. Approximately 2 weeks after birth my ewes will get breed again in any season of the year. You might want to try that instead of waiting until the young ones are weaned. I tried it once and keep doing it ever since. If you want to separate them you can do it at anytime. Yes, once in a while someone will say that their ram will bother or kill a new born lamb but I have never had it happen and I think most rams might push a young one out of its way but not go after it to do any damage. (There is an old saying: There are exceptions to every rule) Also if you keep him by himself, the further away the better for you and the ram. You might want to put one ewe with him to keep him happy. If he is happy you will be happy in the long run. My young rams are usually sold before they think about competing with the adult ram. If I have one or two young rams with the herd the adult ram butts them off without any problems and does his thing. More than 2 young rams the adult ram might spend more time and energy fighting the young ones off and no one gets breed. I am sure you will find everyone does it differently and has had different experiences. Keep us ALL in formed!
