I have a small herd of Barbados in Palmer, Texas (about 35 mi south of Dallas). Our grass has become dormant as well. I tried several kinds of hay last winter but all failed to please these finicky eaters.
I recently found some alfalfa hay. They really enjoy this.
I have 13. I have been feeding them about 3/4 a bale a week and supplementing protein pellets and cracked corn about twice a week. All seem healthy and full of energy.
