It's a new year and I think we should all thank Carol for the great job she
does on this list. She volunteers her time to maintain the list and the
sister web site. I particularly appreciate her efforts since I'm an
independent contractor myself and know how tough it can be to use time for
volunteer efforts.
I happen to receive the digest version of the messages, and for those of you
who don't, leaving HTML turned on can take a three message digest and turn
it into three pages of very difficult to read text. I'll admit to even
deleting the digest without reading it when it contains eight or ten
messages with a bunch of HTML. And this is the only list I subscribe to
that will even accept HTML posts. Many simply delete them automatically at
the server.
So, what can we do? If you use outlook express, it is very simple: On the
main menu, Under Tools....Options, click on the "Send" tab on the top and
check the box that reads "Reply to messages in the format in which they were
sent".
This is really polite for all your email since many users who send messages
in plain text don't have an email reader that does HTML and covers replies
to existing messages. Just keep in mind that if someone sends you an HTML
message and you want to reply in text, you'll have to change it as noted
below.
Second, just add an entry in your address book for
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and on the "Name" tab check the box that says
"Send email using plain text only".
The only case these two options won't catch is if you receive an HTML email
from the list. Then you would have to go to "Format" on the message reply
and change it to text, which works great and strips out the HTML from the
original message. But if we all do the first two things, this won't come up
anyway.

Have a great New Year everyone!
