My barbados ewe is at a friends to be bred. She says I should leave my ewe there for 3 weeks, that it takes up to 17 days for her to go into heat once she is around a ram. From what I have read here previously, this does not sound right. Or is she? She has been breeding for a number of years but has never read up on this breed till recently. How long should I leave my ewe with her ram, they are in with a number of other ewes of hers. She has a small flock.
Also, for my info. My sister-in-law bought 3 mixed breed ewe lambs, mixed barbados. One has very short ears, she is woolie, not like the other two, which are hair. Can anyone tell me what breed has the short ears? I know some of you have several different breeds.

I have been reading a lot here about the overeating shot. The sheep shearer that has been coming to shear my sister-in-law's woolies gives them that shot every year. These girls eat like food is going to run off. The mixed breeds eat like this, too. My barbados ewe doesn't eat like that. When the food is all gone, she cries for more because the others have eaten it up so fast. I separate her from the others at times, when I can. She is not going without, that's for sure.
