I had a second time ewe deliver triplets on Feb. 6th. All three were dead when I found them in the morning. They were cleaned off and appeared normal. Last year this ewe had a healthy single ewe lamb with no assistance. The ewe looks perfectly healthy.
On Feb. 15 a pregnant ewe died. She went from appearing fine and healthy to dead in 6 hours. She was not in labor, the lamb was nowhere near the birth canal. I cut her open after she died and her single lamb was dead also. This ewe in previous years has had healthy live lambs, and one breech stillborn lamb. On Feb 16 a ewe delivered healthy twin rams (Yay!). On Feb 22 a first timer delivered a healthy single ewe (YAY!). Today, March 4th, another ewe has a stillborn ram. This ram appears normal also, except his umbilical (sp) cord is quite thick - about 1" in diameter. This particular ewe has always had healthy live twins. I have another ewe who does not appear to be pregnant at all. She delivered a healthy single ram last year (first time). I have one more ewe (a first timer) due to lamb. I cannot think of any difference in feed or hay of this year v. previous years. The only difference is that this year all the lambs are sired by a different ram. Would that have anything to do with anything? He does have 3 healthy lambs on the ground so far, but also has 4 dead lambs so far. I have never had problems like this before. I am grasping at straws to find out what is going on. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks for any input. If you need more details on anything, just ask.
