I had been advised that it is really important to keep minerals available at all times. This was told by another shepherd that had had abortions and low birth rates, etc. Since they did this the problem was resolved.
Could also be just plain bad luck. There may be nothing you could have done to prevent it. Do you suppose that any of the ewes could be bunting each other, or if there is a ram with them, maybe he is not being "nice".
