This is how I do it. If the ewe has twins and has a huge bag I will take one twin off a week before the other. If it's a ewe lamb/ram lamb pair I take off the ram lamb first. If it's a same-sex pair the biggest lamb gets pulled first. The ewe has her grain cut off at least five days before weaning. On weaning day Momma gets just dry hay, no lush pasture and I even restrict her water for the first day or two. I've never had a problem this way. When the bag has deflated she can go back out to pasture but recieves no more grain until flushing/breeding again. I have never had to hand milk to relieve pressure so far.
